The GYROKINESIS® Method

The Gyrokinesis Method is a fluid, rhythmic movement practice that works the entire body through spirals and waves. The method is built around the spine— because the spine is central to how we move, breathe, and function. It focuses on circular movement with three-dimensional patterns rather than straight lines. Our breath leads everything, driving the movement. While the method is low-impact, it’s incredibly comprehensive, strengthening, mobilizing, and energizing. It’s about awakening the body rather than forcing it.

Adaptable for all fitness levels, GYROKINESIS® is practiced by everyone from athletes and fitness enthusiasts to seniors and people recovering from injury. The exercises are especially nourishing for the spine, helping to reduce pain, increase mobility, and support overall well-being — leaving you feeling stronger, more supple, and refreshed. Participating in class only requires a mat and a chair — no equipment needed.

My mission is to share my passion, dedication, and enthusiasm for GYROKINESIS® in a way that inspires and empowers others to connect more deeply with their bodies, minds, and communities. Through this work, I aim to help individuals unlock their full potential, enhance their well-being, and transform everyday life into something extraordinary — leaving each person I encounter feeling better than when I found them, with a smile on their face and joy in their heart.

Hey there, I’m Sharron!

I fell in love with GYROKINESIS® over 10 years ago and practiced the method for many years before becoming a certified instructor. As a former Cabrillo College Anatomy Instructor, I draw on my background to help increase my students’ body awareness and deepen their understanding of the GYROKINESIS® Method.

My goal is for students to leave class with improved posture, greater flexibility and balance, and an overall sense of wellbeing — both inside and out. I welcome movers and non-movers alike, creating an environment where each person can move within their own comfort zone with ease and joy.

When I’m not teaching GYROKINESIS®, you’ll likely find me hiking local trails, teaching my cat new tricks (Markie now performs 10 tricks and counting), getting lost in a good book, nurturing friendships, or pursuing my passion for travel.

  • Her Joy is Infectious

Sharron is so passionate about lifelong learning and her joy for bringing Gyrokinesis to her classes is infectious. This is the only body class I’ve consistently attended in my adult life. How I feel doing the work and how I feel after and how my body is changing and feeling younger with the effects of the multi-plane expansion and flowing curls and arches means that I always want to show up.

  • An Excellent Teacher

I have had the opportunity to take numerous Gyrokinesis classes with Sharron Barth. She is an excellent teacher who comes to class totally prepared to offer concise, directed, and varied instruction. Sharron has an engaging and positive attitude; her enthusiasm makes her classes fun! Because of her physical mastery of all aspects of the discipline, watching her move through the various sequences is a challenging and valuable way to learn Gyrokinesis.

I look forward to taking more Gyrokinesis classes with Sharron in the future!

  • She Embodies the Joy of Movement

What stands out for me about Gyrokinesis with Sharron Barth is that she makes it fun! She speaks about the joy of movement and embodies this in her teaching style. She has us smiling and laughing as we are becoming more fluid, flexible, and healthy from the movement session. She also creates a sense of community connection with group icebreaker questions, so you get to know the other people in the classes as well. I highly recommend movement sessions with Sharron Barth!

  • Her Techniques Work

I really look forward to Sharron’s class. She’s personable, courteous, and happy. She shows her personal attention, and I can hear everything going on. Her techniques work and she shows how each movement is best, uses examples, photos, models. The light approach is easier than feeling whether I have done it well or correctly each time. I feel supported and that I learned the movement. We also have some participant sharing time that’s fun. Sharron is easy to talk with and is a qualified, trained, and recommended practitioner of Gyrokinesis. I will always go to Sharron Barth’s classes!

  • It's a Joy

It's a joy to experience Sharron's intelligently kind and inspiring teaching. Her competent guidance provides opportunities to de-stress while giving attention progressively, from head to toe, in a simply fun and supportive multi-level environment.

I appreciate the knowledgeable attention to body awareness, and the success and motivation to keep improving strength, flexibility, and balanced coordination by applying techniques I am happily experiencing and learning in class.

  • Professional Expertise

Sharron Barth’s style of Gyrokinesis is on of professional expertise with a touch of fun and imagination. Her movement instruction is of the highest level and ach class is fulfilling, correct, yet original. She is very caring or each of her students, and does her homework before meeting us to adjust her to the next level of what she is studying. She loves her practice and her students.

As a recent example, she names the day’s session “Bloom!” in reference to the opening of spring and that we students might bloom with particular movements. As the sun came in and out of rain clouds there were several opportunities for us to bloom ith our movements in the sky’s dark to light appearance.

Sharron is innovative about many things and in finding a location for the class, always a challenge for an ever-growing group, she has successfully solved this problem many times. Members of her classes have gotten close, a good sign of a cohesive group led by a qualified instructor.

  • All That and a Sense of Humor

I found Sharron after falling and dislocating my shoulder which tore all the ligaments in my rotator cuff as well as tearing my bicep.

I was determined not to fall again and was looking to increase my strength and balance. I came across Sharron’s class and hooked from the start.

She was knowledgeable, engaging, gentle, and supportive. All that and a sense of humor.

I started last October, it’s April and I’m still taking her classes. She saw my progress before I did. Her encouragement made me want to push through my discomfort. I don’t think I would’ve come this far without Sharron.

  • I Feel the Difference

My friends loved their Gyrokinesis class at Cabrillo and when I heard the Senior Center was starting the class, I jumped the chance to take it. People I talk to don’t know what Gyrokinesis is or how good it feels. Our class teacher is so calm and such a good instructor. She explains each of the moves and why and how they benefit your body.

My favorite part of the cassis when she uses her skeleton to show what part of the body is being affected. I came to this class to keep my spine flexible. I do not want to be bent over when I’m older. I definitely feel the difference in my body, especially the day after class. I have a bigger range of motion.

  • Learning Body Awareness

i am so grateful to participate in the Wednesday Gyrokinesis class! I have been in class for almost two months and I really enjoy it. Sharron is a great instructor and she is very detail-oriented. I am not only learning to stretch my body and have good balance, but also learned awareness of my body and understand how important it is to improve my posture in daily life. My sincere thanks!

  • Relaxing to the Body and Mind

My wife wanted to improve her balance and mobility and had heard of a Gyrokinesis class taught by Sharron Barth, and I decided to take the class with her. We’ve been taking the class once a week for six months and find ourselves looking forward to the classes. The exercises are very relaxing to the body and mind. My wife’s balance has improved to the point of not using her cane as frequently and I’ve been having back pain episodes, like “my back went out again,” which have been absent for six months. I highly recommend this class to anyone.

  • Professional and Comprehensive Approach

I have studied Gyrokinesis under Sharron Barth for over three years during the summers. She has proven to be an excellent teacher; she has a great understanding of Gyrokinesis which she imparts to her students with skill, patience, and attention to the particular needs and abilities of each student. She challenges her class to aspire to a mastery of gyro that will bring them a lifelong passion for the strength, flexibility, and growth that the discipline can offer.

Her attention to the particular challenges each individual experiences is a hallmark of her professional and comprehensive approach. I can, without reservation, offer my highest praise and recommendation of Sharron as both an excellent Gyrokinesis teacher and a wonderful person.
